If you google “what is Oklahoma known for?” you’ll find chicken fried steak, Route 66, and tornadoes (amongst other things). Most people aren’t thinking about rehab when they envision spending time in Oklahoma. Unless you’re from here, you won’t realize how beautiful this state is and how much it has to offer. There is a reason behind everything we do at Country Road. From our location to the people we hire and the way we run our program. Everything is done with a purpose behind it. In this blog we’ll break down five distinct features of Country Road Recovery that make our campus the best place to find your path to recovery.
Checking yourself into addiction treatment can be a lonely, scary thing to do. It can feel like stepping into the unknown. We’ve been there. We know what it’s like to check into rehab for the first time just like we know what it’s like to live inside the nightmare of active addiction. The majority of our staff are in recovery. When it comes to addiction and recovery, experience matters. Country Road Recovery works to create the kind of treatment environment we would want for ourselves. This is not just a place to detox and go home again. This is a place to heal, learn, and grow into the phase of your life and recovery.
I know what you’re thinking - Oklahoma equals the Great Plains. The Great Plains equals large expanses of flat nothingness. Sure, we do have some flatlands in this state, but which ones don’t?! What we also have are forests, mountains, prairies, rivers, lakes, canyons, and mesas. Country Road is located in the country, on rolling prairie land just a stone's throw from Lake Thunderbird and a quick drive to Mt. Scott. We’re big fans of the healing power of nature and encourage all our clients to get outside and explore the 135 acres of pastureland. Weekly trips out to Wichita Mountains National Park are made to get folks off campus and into the woods. Sometimes we need to be removed from everything we know so we can discover everything we are. That’s why created a treatment program in the serenity of rural Oklahoma.
We hear from alumni all the time about how special the community was while they were residents at Country Road. “To learn at last that I wasn’t alone in my battles. Being surrounded by like minded people.” If addiction is loneliness and despair, then recovery is connection and hope. We work hard to cultivate a strong community aspect to our treatment program. Everyone that comes to recover here is cut from the same cloth. They may have different sociocultural backgrounds, but they’ve all experienced the same mental, emotional, and spiritual hopelessness. Bound together by this familiarity, they unite to hold each other accountable, support one another, and everyone heals alongside each other. It’s an experience unlike anything else to watch the light return to someone’s eyes.
Part of our community building is learning how to have fun in recovery together. It’s common to hear people say that they were afraid to get sober because they didn’t think they’d ever have fun again. What would even be the point of getting sober if you just lived a boring, sad, life? We insist on living a full, happy life in recovery. Our Fun in Recovery program gets everyone off campus once a week to get out into the world together and have fun. Whether it’s going to a movie, bowling night, or something else, it’s important that we learn how to enjoy living a sober life. Plus it’s a great way to put into practice the healthy coping skills you’re learning in a protected environment. Too many programs create a treatment bubble for their residents and then once they finish the program, they’re thrust back into the world with zero transition. They go from 0 to 60 real fast. Country Road believes in test drives before buying the car.
When your time is over on campus, you’re leaving with a squad. Our alumni network is vast, deep, and strong. All too often, people leave treatment after 30, 60, 90 days and go back into the world with zero support. We want all of our graduates to leave Country Road being plugged into our alumni network of support. Need help finding meets? We got you. Curious about finding employment? We got you. Struggling with early sobriety? Guess what - we got you. Now that you’re a Country Road alum, you don’t have to go through recovery alone. We’re here for you every step of the way. This isn't some limited time offer either. If you’re willing to put the work in and meet us halfway, we’ll do the same.
Country Road and Oklahoma have a lot to offer. We’re proud of the treatment program we’ve built here and look forward to being of service to you and your loved ones should you ever need us.
