Nowadays it seems like every time I turn around there’s a new addiction treatment program popping up. These facilities appear to be growing faster than weeds in an untended garden. It’s great that society is waking up to the exponentially growing need for more and better behavioral health treatment but I worry about the quality of these treatment programs. In my humble opinion, substance abuse and mental health treatment should never be a plug-and-play endeavor. We’re in the business of treating the human psyche and healing the soul - the treatment modalities we employ and the way we run our programs should reflect the gravity of that work. Here are five aspects that make healing at Country Road an unparalleled experience.
Holistic Healing: Mind, Body, and Soul
Substance abuse is a bit of a misnomer. It would lead you to believe that the substances are the main issue. From a triage point of view that is correct - the substances are what is actively poisoning the body. But take away the substances and you’re left with the underlying causes and conditions of the addiction - and if left untreated, that is what will kill someone in the long term. At Country Road we believe in treatment that works to heal the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of substance abuse. Through a combination of therapy, mindfulness practices, trauma work, and wellness activities, individuals are guided to reconnect with themselves on a deeper level. Our goal is to help you process and heal from the past, connect with the present, and build towards the future. This approach not only educates participants about the interconnectedness of mind, body, and soul but also equips them with lifelong tools for maintaining balance and well-being.
Personalized Therapeutic Modalities: Tailoring Treatment for Every Individual
I said in the intro that behavioral health treatment should never be a plug-and-play process. This is why. Every human being has a unique story and a set of unique circumstances which led them to the point of needing treatment. They have distinctive medical, psychological, emotional, and trauma histories. They may have specific learning abilities or disabilities. Each person that comes into treatment is an individual and no two people are going to respond to treatment the same way. Country Road understands this and that’s why our medical and clinical team work together from the first day of admission to put together a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to the needs of each person.
The Healing Power of Nature
Country Road is situated on 135 acres of open country and pastureland for a reason. For one, we believe in the power of getting out of the city, leaving people, places, and things behind, and placing an emphasis on yourself and your recovery. Second, we believe in the power of nature to assist in the healing process. Studies have shown that nature-based therapy improves mental health and the overall psychological well-being of humans. It’s easy to get caught up in the fast paced, technology driven world of today and forget to take time to breath fresh air, get some sun, and listen to the wind blow. We encourage all of our clients to get outside, go fishing, go for a hike, or just lounge in the sun. The land around our facility is open for exploration. For those more adventurous, we take trips to Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge and spend time summiting Mt. Scott. Not every form of therapy has to be done inside a room sitting across from a counselor.
Innovative Technology: Pretaa
Pretaa is a wearable device that looks like a watch and tracks biological data like steps, sleep, oxygen levels, heart rate, and skin temperature. It provides self-reported assessments that track anxiety, cravings, depression, behavior, and mental and emotional well-being. All of this information is used to track your progress in treatment in real-time while also keeping the medical team up to date on your health. Pretaa helps our medical and clinical team see a much more accurate and comprehensive picture of your physical and psychological state than a typical exam would allow. This means less administrative paperwork and more in-person time with you working on your treatment goals.
Innovative Aftercare Program
There is a saying that “real recovery starts when you leave treatment.” While this is debatable, the meaning is that it’s not until you leave the treatment bubble that everything you’ve learned goes into practice. Real life comes back hard and fast after treatment. I can say from personal experience that it was equal parts what I learned in treatment and the people I surrounded myself with that kept me sober during my first year of recovery. Those people were the ones I met in aftercare and 12-step programs. The importance of a solid aftercare program cannot be stated enough. Country Road Recovery has just that. Not only do we continue to check-in on your progress for that first year, but our case management team helps with recovery life skills, navigating triggers, helping you find long-term sober living, job searches, support group recommendations, and more. If you need us, we’re here for you - that includes our alumni. Our connected alumni network provides you with a recovery community right after you graduate. You'll find clean and sober friends, mentors, and colleagues who are ready to share what they've learned and to lend a hand whenever you need it. Our goal is to give you everything you need to succeed. It’s up to you whether you use it or not.
