If you’ve ever been to multiple treatment facilities (some of us learn slower than others) you will know that not all programs are designed the same. There are adolescent programs, gender-specific programs, trauma-focused programs, wilderness therapy programs, the list goes on and on. Each type of program has its intended purpose and the specific ways in which they go about achieving that purpose. At Country Road we believe in offering a holistic treatment experience able to meet our clients where they are by offering what they need when they need it. Keep reading to learn more about the types of therapy you might experience during your time at Country Road.
What Even is a Treatment Modality?
Treatment modality is jargon used to describe a specific type of therapy technique or clinical approach used to improve an individual's emotional, behavioral or psychological well-being. When you hear treatment modality, think therapy. If an addiction program describes using a variety of treatment modalities to treat their patients it just means they offer a range of therapies to address different needs. Multiple treatment modalities is a good thing. If you find yourself in a facility where they offer only one kind of clinical approach, you may want to call your emergency contact.
Country Road’s Approach to Therapy
Being a dual-diagnosis and trauma-informed addiction treatment facility means we’re equipped to handle a number of behavioral health issues. In order to do that, we’ve got to be clinically prepared to offer a whole host of treatment modalities dependent on the individual needs of the client. We believe in a tailored treatment experience. The kind of therapeutic treatment one individual gets may not work for someone else. We prefer it that way. Addiction, trauma, mental health. These things all affect everyone differently. So treatment should be done differently for each person too. That’s our philosophy and we’re sticking to it.
What Kind of Treatment Y’all Got?
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
CBT is akin to a house renovation but it happens in your head. The techniques used in CBT allow you to reshape thought patterns and alter behavior for the better. It’s been used to treat depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT):
DBT is the lovechild of CBT and mindfulness practices. Practicing DBT skills helps you better navigate the emotional ups and downs of life. It’s been found to be especially useful for those individuals that experience intense emotions.
- Individual Counseling:
Everybody needs someone to talk to. A supportive place where you can openly share challenges, triggers, and dreams. Every person who comes through Country Road Recovery will have an individual counselor that they meet with. They’ll help you navigate the waters of treatment and chart your course to long-term recovery. Just don’t get mad when you want to leave treatment and they Jedi mind trick you into staying.
- Group Therapy:
Addiction survives in isolation. Recovery thrives in community. Working with others who are in a similar situation encourages support and accountability. Sharing stores, offering encouragement and helping one another is the backbone of recovery. Don’t be surprised if you end up making life-long friends with some of the people you’re in treatment with.
- Family Therapy:
We often think our addictions are a victimless crime but the reality is that we hurt the ones closest to us. Family therapy facilities open lines of communication and starts the healing process with those that we love.
- Holistic Therapies:
If everything before this sounded boring to you, then get excited for this part. Holistic approaches at Country Road include yoga, meditation, art therapy, nature therapy, and more. Holistic therapies are the ones that don’t seem like therapy. They’re creative outlets that reconnect you with your inner self.
- Motivational Interviewing:
Combining evidence based approaches from cognitive and social psychology, motivational interviewing is used to spark internal motivation for change. It’s basically calibrating your internal compass so it points true north again.
- Psychoeducation:
They don’t say “knowledge is power” for nothing. We use psychoeducation to provide insight into addiction, coping mechanisms, family dynamics, mental health, and to guide you towards making healthier, informed decisions.
- Trauma-Informed Therapy:
It’s not surprising that substance abuse is often a form of self-medication. Sometimes this is due to past trauma. Trauma-informed therapy acknowledges the effects of trauma on mental health and promotes treating trauma alongside addiction instead of separate from it.
- Experiential Therapy:
Traditional therapy meets unconventional experiences. Country Road’s experiential therapy includes activities like equine therapy or adventure therapy – a hands-on approach that allows you to explore emotions and behaviors in a unique setting.
